In the early hours of Saturday, a pre-independence-era mazar in Kichha was demolished to facilitate a road-widening project, officials announced. The 'Beni Mazar' was considered to be illegally built on land owned by the Railways and Public Works Department (PWD).

A joint team comprising district administration and railway officials carried out the demolition at dawn, focusing on removing the structure hindering ongoing roadwork. The mazar had historical importance and was associated with local folklore, drawing visitors from various faiths.

This operation is one of multiple steps in the development of the Haldwani-Bareilly road. To clear the way for this project, officials have recently moved religious idols from a Kali temple, adhering to regulations to ensure timely completion.
