Taking serious note of potholes on major highway routes and the lack of essential amenities on service roads, the Gurugram deputy commissioner has directed issuance of a notice to NHAI under prescribed sections, officials said on Wednesday. The deputy commissioner (DC) specified that the notice should set a 15-day deadline and clarify that if the work is not completed within the stipulated time, necessary action will be initiated as per rules, they added. DC Uttam Singh on Wednesday held a meeting at the Mini Secretariat regarding the District Road Safety Committee and Safe School Vehicle Policy. During the meeting, he said at places where the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is carrying out construction work in the district, service roads should be maintained. Further, until the construction work is completed, regular water sprinkling should be ensured in dusty areas to avoid inconvenience to the public. During the meeting, a senior police official said strict action was being taken against traffic violations and over 62,000 challans had been issued this year. The DC sought suggestions from citizens regarding accident-prone areas and also issued instructions to ensure safe traffic outside schools. ''Information should be obtained from all schools regarding the condition of roads outside their campuses and whether essential facilities such as speed breakers are available. Where such facilities are not available, necessary arrangements should be made on a priority basis to ensure the safety of students,'' the DC said. ARB ARB
