The Karnataka government has embarked on a transformative journey to shape the future of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region (BMR) by the year 2037. In a strategic move, it signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) with the ISEG Foundation to collaboratively develop a comprehensive economic masterplan. This initiative is aimed at outlining a data-driven and actionable vision, designed to address key areas such as the economy, infrastructure, and sustainability.
BMR currently stands as one of India's pivotal economic engines, contributing significantly to Karnataka's GSDP with its robust IT, biotechnology, and aerospace sectors. As the region witnesses a remarkable economic expansion at a rate of over 9% annually, challenges like congestion, rising real estate prices, and escalating talent costs demand urgent intervention. The upcoming masterplan promises to tackle these obstacles decisively.
With the blueprint scheduled for completion by mid-September, the ambitious plan anticipates doubling the city's economy by 2032. By benchmarking against global city-regions, the project envisions a thriving, world-class urban environment marked by superior quality of life and abundant employment opportunities, setting Bengaluru on a competitive footing with the likes of Tokyo, London, and Singapore.
