Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, is advocating for strengthened connections between academic institutions, the government, and industry to tackle prevalent urban challenges. These include pollution, water scarcity, and mental health. In a meeting with educational leaders, he laid out an agenda focused on innovative research and community outreach.
The Governor emphasized the importance of making students more employable and entrepreneurial by equipping them with relevant skills. He pointed to the potential role of nearly three lakh students in leading behavioral change, particularly in reducing fossil fuel consumption and increasing the use of public transport.
Institutions were urged to engage in collaborative, data-driven research on key issues including traffic decongestion, air quality, and sustainable water management. The Governor also highlighted the need for student involvement in initiatives around women's safety and environmental sustainability, positioning universities as catalysts for the Delhi Behavioural Change Mission.
