Scorching Heatwave Grips Northwest and Central India

Large parts of northwest and central India brace for severe heatwave conditions as temperatures soar to unprecedented highs. Major cities like Delhi, Bathinda, and regions across Rajasthan and Haryana are facing extreme temperatures beyond 45 degrees Celsius. Weather forecasts warn of continued scorching heat with little relief in sight.

Unprecedented temperatures hit Northwest and Central India as a severe heatwave grips the region. From Monday, temperatures in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi hovered around 45 degrees Celsius, with Bathinda recording a blistering 47 degrees. Delhi is expected to experience relentless heat with no immediate signs of relief.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), northwesterly desert winds from Rajasthan are intensifying the scorching conditions. Weather experts warn of continued heatwave conditions until May 24, particularly affecting Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, with parts of Delhi experiencing temperatures reaching 45 degrees.

The heatwave has put pressure on power supply, with Delhi's peak demand soaring to 7542 MW. Health advisories stress the importance of hydration and protective measures to mitigate heat stress, as the region endures possibly the hottest May in recent years.
