Rescued spotted deer dies during treatment

An adult male spotted deer chital, which was rescued from near a residential colony in Sahibganj, died during treatment likely due to stress-induced heart failure, a forest official said on Sunday.Sahibganj Divisional Forest Officer DFO Prabal Garg told PTI that the adult spotted deer weighing nearly 60 kg was found near the electricity office in North Colony of Sahibganj on Saturday.

An adult male spotted deer (chital), which was rescued from near a residential colony in Sahibganj, died during treatment likely due to stress-induced heart failure, a forest official said on Sunday.

Sahibganj Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Prabal Garg told PTI that the adult spotted deer weighing nearly 60 kg was found near the electricity office in North Colony of Sahibganj on Saturday. This was the first instance of a spotted deer found in Sahibganj.

''Getting information from locals, our team rushed to the spot and rescued the spotted deer. However, the spotted deer passed away later in the evening during the course of treatment, likely due to stress-induced heart failure. However, the exact reason for death could be ascertained after the post-mortem reports are available,'' said Garg.

Veterinarians conducted a post-mortem examination on the spotted deer carcass at the Taljhari Forest Complex.

A forest official said that the spotted deer might have strayed to Sahibganj city from the nearby Palamau forest.

''Safely capturing a wild animal in a densely populated urban area posed a significant challenge for the department-a challenge the team successfully overcame. The department has appealed to the public that if any wild animal is sighted in a residential area, people should refrain from attempting to catch, corner, or harm it; instead, they should immediately inform the department to facilitate a safe rescue,'' said the DFO.
