A woman was killed and her husband injured in an attack by a wild elephant in Wayanad on Tuesday, according to police reports.

The victim, Jessy from Puthumala, was travelling with her husband, Shaji, near Kalladi when they were attacked. Jessy succumbed to her injuries on the spot, while Shaji is injured.

Authorities have promised Rs 5 lakh compensation and a job to a family member. The government will also review safety measures in a high-level meeting on human-animal conflict and prevention strategies.
