Multiple huge asteroids to zoom past Earth over next few weeks

More than one asteroid will come dangerously close to Earth over next few weeks. We will be safe this time but Elon Musk says we're not ready for the one that will eventually hit us.

Two giant asteroids are set to approach Earth within next few weeks, topped with recently sparked tensions after billionaire Elon Musk claimed that we have "no defense" in case an asteroid does hit Earth. One of the objects will make a close encounter with our plant on 26th August and the other one on 14th September.

Although we'll be safe this time as these asteroids zoom past Earth at the speed of up to 23,000 kmph, Musk suggests that we should be ready because an asteroid "will eventually hit" us.

On 26th August, Asteroid 2016 PD1 will approach Earth and will be 0.02925 astronomical units or about 2.7 million miles away. On 14th September, an astroid called 2000 QW7 will make a close encounter without planet from about 0.0538050443482 or 5 million miles away.

The 361-meter wide 2000 QW7 is bigger in size and faster in speed when compared to 110-meter 2016 PD1 but both of these asteroids have the potential to wipe out millions if they hit Earth. But humans would not get extinct if an asteroid of their size and speed does hit out planet.

Only space rocks that are more than half a mile wide or larger could generate enough dust and debris to block sunlight so plants across the planet can no longer grow, posing an existential threat to humans.
