Angels' Mike Trout to miss finale against Cleveland Indians

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout will sit out Sunday's series finale against the Cleveland Indians, the fourth straight game he has been sidelined.

Trout is bothered by a sore right wrist that leaves him unable to bat. He suffered the injury in Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

"Mike is moving in the right direction but he's not able to swing right now so he's day-to-day," Angels manager Mike Scioscia told reporters before Saturday's game. "We'll chart the progress today and tomorrow and see where we are."

The star outfielder was evaluated again on Sunday before Scioscia decided to hold him out again. Eric Young Jr. will replace him in the lineup for Sunday's game.

Scioscia said the injury doesn't prevent Trout from throwing. Trout underwent an MRI exam on Thursday that displayed inflammation but no ligament or bone damage.

The Angels head to Detroit next for a three-game series against the Tigers that begins Monday.

Trout, batting .309 with 30 home runs, 60 RBIs and 21 steals in 109 games, is taking a cautious approach after missing six-plus weeks last season with a torn thumb ligament on a head-first slide. This week's wrist injury occurred on a conventional slide while attempting to steal third.

"When I slid into third base, I caught my hand," Trout told the media on Thursday. "Kind of weird. Felt like I just jammed it pretty bad. We taped it and tried to do as much as we could during the game (Wednesday), but when I woke up, it was pretty sore."
