Dodgers activate LHP Ryu, place RHP Stripling on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu from the 60-day disabled list on Wednesday, placing All-Star right-hander Ross Stripling on the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Left-hander Tony Cingrani (rotator cuff strain) was transferred to the 60-day DL to complete the transaction.

Ryu will be making his first start since May 2 when he takes the mound against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. The 31-year-old has been sidelined by a left groin strain.

Stripling, meanwhile, is dealing with lower back discomfort. His DL stint is retroactive to Aug. 12.

Ryu was off to a fast start before first sustaining his injury. He was 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA in six outings, striking out 36 hitters in 29 2/3 innings.

Stripling, a first-time All-Star this season, is 8-3 with a 2.62 ERA in 28 games (17 starts). His ERA since the All-Star break is 6.14 in three starts after he posted a 2.08 mark prior to the Midsummer Classic.

"I don't have any bulging discs or anything like that, it's basically managing symptoms," Stripling told reporters. "Give it a couple of days, get on some good meds and try to get the inflammation out of there. I'm going to give it through the weekend since they are going to Seattle and I'll stay here."

"This (back injury) kind of crept up on me, which kind of stinks," Stripling said. "Yeah, I'm kind of frustrated to be a guy they counted on when things got hectic earlier in the season to then be a guy who is all over the place with both health and where I am pitching-wise."
