Rams sign OT Havenstein to 4-year, $32.5M extension
The Los Angeles Rams have extended starting right tackle Rob Havenstein on a deal that will keep him with the club through 2022, the team announced Monday.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but according to ESPN, Havenstein will make $32.5 million over the four-year extension.
A second-round pick in 2015 out of Wisconsin, Havenstein has started in each of the 43 games he has played in his career. He was scheduled to make $976,367 this season, in the final year of his rookie deal.
Havenstein is the second player from that draft class to land an extension from the Rams, following the four-year deal worth a reported record $60 million that running back Todd Gurley received last month. That was a week after the Rams signed wide receiver Brandin Cooks, acquired this offseason in a trade with New England, to a five-year extension worth a reported $81 million.
With each new extension, the spotlight on defensive tackle Aaron Donald seems to grow. Donald, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is currently holding out as he seeks his own new deal as he enters the fifth-year option of his rookie contract.
Donald is very likely seeking to become the highest-paid defender in league history, but it's unclear how much of a gap remains between the two sides in negotiations. Von Miller leads all NFL defenders with a deal that averages just over $19 million annually.
Donald, 27, has made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons and has three first-team All-Pro nods. He earned a little more than $10.1 million from 2014-17 and is due $6.9 million this season. The club has been very vocal about its intentions to secure Donald for the long term.
