Vikings cut K Carlson, reportedly sign Bailey

The Minnesota Vikings on Monday waived rookie kicker Daniel Carlson after his disastrous day in Green Bay and reportedly signed former Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey to take the job.

Carlson missed three field goals, one in regulation and two in overtime, in Sunday's 29-29 tie with the Packers. He pushed all three attempts wide right from distances of 48, 49 and 35 yards.

The Bailey signing was reported by multiple outlets Monday afternoon.

Bailey, the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history, has been unemployed since Dallas released him in a surprising cost-saving move before the season. He was owed a base salary of $3.4 million each of the next three seasons. The Cowboys opted to go with rookie Brett Maher.

"I think we got real comfortable with how Maher was kicking, what kind of offseason he had," team owner Jerry Jones said at the time on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show. "We really felt that we could get the same strategy, the same impact that a kicker like Bailey gives us, we felt we could get that from another guy that fit our cap, fit our team better."

Bailey, 30, made 88.2 percent of his career field-goal attempts during seven seasons with the Cowboys. Only Baltimore's Justin Tucker owns a higher mark at 90.3 percent through Week 2 of this season.

Bailey made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and has finished in the top 10 in the NFL in points scored five times. He has only missed two extra points in 278 career attempts, both of them last season.

Bailey had turned down offers to try out for the Cleveland Browns and three other teams since the start of the season, according to ESPN.

The Vikings signed wide receiver Aldrick Robinson to fill Carlson's spot on the 53-man roster.

Robinson, who turns 30 on Sept. 24, was released by San Francisco on Aug. 31. He has appeared in 70 games with the Redskins, Ravens, Falcons and 49ers since 2012, catching 69 passes for 1,191 yards with nine touchdowns.
