Chicago Bears get past Arizona Cardinals for a 16-14 win in Glendale
The Arizona Cardinals benched quarterback Sam Bradford in favor of first-round rookie Josh Rosen for the final two minutes of Sunday's 16-14 loss to the Chicago Bears in Glendale, Ariz.
Given two chances, Rosen was unable to drive the Cardinals into range for a potential game-winning field goal. On the first drive, he used three completions to move Arizona as far as the Bears' 42. After running back Chase Edmonds was stuffed for minus-3 yards on third-and-2, Rosen was intercepted on fourth-and-5 by Bryce Callahan.
After a Bears three-and-out, the Cardinals got the ball back at their own 20 with 43 seconds remaining and no timeouts. Following a 9-yard completion to Christian Kirk, who could not get out of bounds, Rosen threw a pick-six to safety Eddie Jackson, but the play was nullified because Khalil Mack was offside. Rosen then scrambled for 12 yards and got out of bounds at the Cardinals' 43, but he was unable to get a Hail Mary to attempt off on the final play, getting sacked by Sherrick McManis.
Rosen finished 4 of 7 for 36 yards and the interception.
After scoring just six points total in the season's first two games, the Cardinals (0-3) went up 14-0 behind two touchdown passes from Bradford, who was 7 for 10 with 95 yards and the two scores at halftime. But Bradford threw two interceptions and lost a fumble on the first three possessions in the second half, with the Bears converting the turnovers into 13 points to take the lead for good.
Bradford finished 13 of 19 for 157 yards with the two scores and three turnovers. On the season, he is 50 of 80 for 400 yards, two touchdowns four interceptions and six sacks took.
The Cardinals could have the incentive to move on from Bradford -- who signed a one-year, $20 million deal in the spring -- sooner than later if Rosen remains the starter. Bradford's contract includes a total of $5 million in roster bonuses, meaning he receives around $300,000 for every game in which he is active. The Cardinals paid Bradford a $10 million signing bonus.
Arizona also has third-stringer Mike Glennon, also a free agent addition, on the depth chart.
