Xander Bogaerts departs during ongoing game against Indians due to injury

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts departed Boston's Sunday night game against the host Cleveland Indians due to a sore left shoulder.

The team announced that he was pulled for precautionary reasons.

Bogaerts swung and missed at a 1-1 pitch in the seventh inning from Indians right-hander Dan Otero and grimaced after his follow-through. He stretched the shoulder as manager Alex Cora and a trainer came out of the dugout to investigate.

Bogaerts was pulled, and pinch-hitter Tzu-Wei Lin finished the at-bat by striking out. Bogaerts was charged with the strikeout.

Bogaerts reached base three times on a single and two walks before departing. He is batting .285 with 21 home runs and 95 RBIs.

Lin remained in the game at shortstop.
