Defenseman Robert Bortuzzo of the St. Louis Blues will miss the rest of preseason and one regular-season game after he was suspended by the NHL.
The league took the action for Bortuzzo's elbowing of Washington's Michal Kempny in a preseason game Tuesday night. That decision was made following a hearing with the NHL Player Safety board earlier Thursday.
The incident occurred as Kempny was in the Blues' zone in the third period. Bortuzzo elbowed him in the head, which forced him into the glass. The Athletic reported Kempny is on a day-to-day basis with an upper-body issue.
The Blues have two more preseason games. They open the season next Thursday at home against Winnipeg.
