The Jacksonville Jaguars signed a veteran running back Jamaal Charles on Tuesday, the team announced.

Charles, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, worked out for the team earlier Tuesday.

The Jaguars also promoted tight end David Grinnage from the practice squad and signed running back Dave Williams off the Denver Broncos' practice squad.

Jacksonville also officially placed tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core-muscle surgery) and running back Corey Grant (foot) on injured reserve and released running back Brandon Wilds.

The Jaguars were in need of reinforcements at running back with the top back Leonard Fournette out indefinitely with a right hamstring injury and third-stringer Grant's injury. No. 2 back T.J. Yeldon is dealing with an ankle injury.

Charles, 31, was formerly a star for the Kansas City Chiefs (2008-16) and posted five 1,000-yard seasons in a six-year span.

His career got derailed when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the 2015 season and then underwent multiple knee surgeries in 2016. He had also torn his left ACL in 2011.

Charles played with the Denver Broncos last season and had just 296 yards on 69 carries.

Overall, Charles has rushed for 7,556 yards and 91 touchdowns in 10 NFL seasons.

Williams was a seventh-round pick by the Broncos in the 2018 draft.
