Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Ali Marpet received a five-year extension from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced on Tuesday.
According to the NFL Network, the extension is worth $55 million and includes $27.13 million in guarantees.
"One of our top priorities heading into this season was to secure our core players to long-term deals and I am thrilled to add Ali to that list,"Buccaneer's general manager Jason Licht said in a statement. "In his first four seasons, Ali has developed into one of the league's best offensive guards and we believe he will only continue to improve.
"His ability to play multiple positions across the line, along with his strong work ethic and overall leadership abilities, were all important factors in our decision to ensure he remains a Buccaneer for the long term."
Marpet is now signed with Tampa Bay through the 2023 campaign. His four-year rookie deal was set to expire after this season.
"I feel incredibly grateful," said Marpet, in comments released by the team. "It's awesome that the Buccaneers wanted me here as much as I wanted to stay here. I love the Tampa Bay community and the organization and I want to thank the Glazer family for making this possible."
The 25-year-old Marpet has started four games at left guard this season. He played centre in 2017 and right guard over his first two NFL campaigns.
Marpet has started in all 44 NFL games in which he has played.
Marpet was a second-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Hobart College, a Division III program in upstate New York.
