With eyes on prize, Butler arrives, shares Sixers' vision

With Minnesota in his rear view mirror, Jimmy Butler sees happy days ahead for himself and the Philadelphia 76ers. Of course, Tuesday was officially Day 1 in his life with a new team after the Timberwolves sent Butler and Justin Patton to the Sixers for Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless and a 2022 second-round draft pick. "When guys go out there and they know how to play basketball, which everybody on this roster does, it's all going to fall into place," Butler said during his introductory news conference at the Sixers' practice facility in Camden, N.J. "I don't think that anybody is going to step on anybody's toes. I think everybody still has the same job to do, and everybody's expected to be the same player that they've always been. That's why I think it's going to be successful."

NBA roundup: LeVert hurt as Nets lose

Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 25 points and 21 rebounds Monday night as the Minnesota Timberwolves halted a five-game losing streak with a 120-113 victory in Minneapolis over the Brooklyn Nets, who lost Caris LeVert to an apparent serious right leg injury. Towns posted his seventh double-double by shooting 9-of-11 from the floor. He had the double-double by halftime, then posted his sixth career game with 20 points and 20 rebounds and the 55th in team history.

Warriors' Durant, Green have heated exchange

Golden State All-Stars Kevin Durant and Draymond Green had a heated exchange Monday night following Green's costly turnover at the end of regulation in the Warriors' 121-116 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors closed the fourth quarter at Staples Center with an 11-0 run and had a chance to win in the final seconds, knotted at 106-106. Green grabbed a rebound and dribbled up the court before fumbling the ball in traffic at the top of the key.

NHL roundup: Aho caps Canes' comeback in OT

Carolina centre Sebastian Aho scored the game-winning goal just 76 seconds into overtime, spoiling the return of former teammate Cam Ward as the Hurricanes defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Monday night in Raleigh, N.C. Aho was patient on the game-winning sequence as he waited out Ward, who played the previous 13 seasons for Carolina, to deliver the winning shot and help the Hurricanes complete a rally from a two-goal deficit.

NFL pulls plug on Mexico City game over unsafe field conditions

Next week's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams originally scheduled for Mexico City will now be held in California due to unsafe field conditions at the Estadio Azteca, the National Football League said on Tuesday. Roger Federer rediscovered his verve in the nick of time to outclass Austrian Dominic Thiem 6-2 6-3 on Tuesday and maintain his hopes of reaching the last four at the ATP Finals. The 37-year-old's proud record of always reaching the semi-finals at the season-ender since it moved to London in 2009 looked in peril after a surprise loss to Kei Nishikori in his opening round-robin match on Sunday.

Olympics: Divided Calgary votes on 2026 Winter Games bid

The citizens of Calgary headed to polling stations on Tuesday for a vote that could decide whether the city will throw in the towel or push ahead with plans to bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics. After weeks of campaigning and rallies that split opinion in the western Canadian city, a high turnout is expected for a vote that both 'Yes' and 'No' camps have said is too close to call.

Steelers' Bell doesn't report, won't play in 2018

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell did not report to the team before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, general manager Kevin Colbert confirmed, meaning he is ineligible to play the rest of the season. Bell, who has held out the entire year since being franchise-tagged for the second straight time, will forfeit the entirety of his $14.5 million tender and not play at all in 2018.
