USOC aware of sex abuse since the early 1990s: court documents

The United States Olympic Committee was informed of sexual abuse in gymnastics more than two decades ago, long before the sexual abuse by former national team doctor Larry Nassar became a high-profile scandal, according to federal court filings. In a statement included in filings at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Wednesday, former USA Gymnastics (USAG) President Kathy Scanlan said during her tenure from 1994 to 1998 she had notified the committee of sexual abuse within the organization soon after she took charge, but "little was done" to address the issue.

Warriors G Curry unhurt in a multi-car crash

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry apparently was not injured when the Porsche he was driving was hit twice in a multi-car crash Friday morning. The collision occurred on Highway 24 in Oakland, Calif., around 9 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

Houston Texans owner McNair dies at 81

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair died Friday in Houston, the team announced. He was 81. "It is with deep sadness that we announce Houston Texans Founder, Senior Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and philanthropist, Robert C. McNair passed away peacefully in Houston today with his loving wife, Janice, and his family by his side," the team said in a statement.

Mickelson beats Woods in $9 million winner-take-all match

Phil Mickelson has played in Tiger Woods' shadow for much of his career but got some semblance of revenge on Friday by winning their $9 million matchplay exhibition under the floodlights in Las Vegas. With the match all square through regulation, Mickelson sealed the win at the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff when he drained a four-foot birdie putt on a makeshift 93-yard hole after the duo had teed off from a practice green.

Improving Mariota expected to start Monday vs. Texans

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is expected to start Monday night's game against the Houston Texas after being a full practice participant on Friday. Mariota was limited in practice the previous two days as he recovers from a stinger he suffered in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. He is listed on the injury report with a neck injury.

Celtics' Irving says he intends to retire by mid-30s

Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving reiterated his apology for saying "F--- Thanksgiving" on Friday, but he also gave fans fair warning that he won't be around forever. Irving, 26, told ESPN after the morning shootaround that he plans to leave the NBA by his mid-30s, in part to get away from the constant attention off the court.

Report: Brady misses an open portion of Pats practice

Quarterback Tom Brady did not appear to be on the field as the New England Patriots began practice on Friday, according to reporters on hand. Brady has yet to miss a practice this season and could still show up for the closed portion of the practice.

NFL roundup: Saints win 10th straight

Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes, and the New Orleans defence forced four turnovers and suffocated the Atlanta running attack as the Saints won their league-best 10th consecutive game with a 31-17 victory over the visiting Falcons on Thursday night. Brees didn't have to throw often -- he completed 15 of 22 for 171 yards -- because the Saints (10-1) controlled the ball on the ground with 150 yards, including 89 by Alvin Kamara and 52 by Mark Ingram II.

Athletics: Kenyan medalist Bett gets four-year doping ban

Kenyan world 800 meters bronze medalist Kipyegon Bett has been handed a four-year ban for doping, the IAAF Athletics Integrity Unit said in a statement on Friday. Bett, 20, refused to allow a urine sample to be taken in February and then in July when a sample was taken, he tested positive for the prohibited substance Erythropoeitin (EPO), an endurance-boosting hormone, the integrity unit said.

Royals hire ex-MLB manager Matheny as an advisor

The Kansas City Royals have named former St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny as a special advisor, the team announced Friday. Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Matheny will work in the scouting and player development areas.
