The Lunda-tchokwe culture of eastern Angola (Moxico, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul) will be highlighted at the 8th edition of the SADC Games, which will be held from 6 to 16 this month in the Gabonese manifestations of the peoples of these three provinces.

The fact was revealed today to the news agency by the provincial director of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports of the province of Lunda Norte, Esmeralda da Piedade Muaximate. On different occasions, the Angolan delegation will reportedly extol the figures Ilunga and Cafundeji.

"The first represents the hunter's symbol, while the second has to do with the face of puberty," she said at the 4 February International Airport just moments before the delegation embarked for the capital of Botswana.

According to the official, the intention is to take advantage of the event to promote the Angolan culture through sport and to instill in the young athletes the need to preserve, to perpetuate and to value the cultural traces of the various regions of Angola, in this particular Lunda-tchokwe.

The Angolan delegation to the SADC 2018 Games consists of 182 members, including 113 athletes, aged between 15 and 19, representing nine modalities: athletics, adapted athletics, football, judo, swimming, basketball, tennis, boxing and volleyball.

In 2016, in the seventh edition (on country soil), Angola ranked fourth with a total of 34 medals, including 12 gold, 8 silver and 14 bronze, in a frame led by South Africa with 125 medals in total (63 gold, 33 silver and 29 bronze).
