Criminal charges were dismissed on May 29, two weeks after images of Scheffler's arrest at Valhalla Golf Club surfaced. His attorney informed him on May 24 that there was substantial evidence in their favor, making the dismissal a formality. Still, the experience was far from over for Scheffler.

The charges stemmed from a fatal pedestrian accident, with Scheffler accused of assaulting a police officer with his vehicle. Surveillance footage released later showed part of the incident, but missing initial contact raised questions. Scheffler's mug shot remains indelible, and legal action is unlikely despite strong evidence.
