India's campaign at the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament concluded as star shuttler Lakshya Sen was defeated in the quarterfinals on Friday. Sen, ranked 14th worldwide, engaged in a fiercely contested match but ultimately bowed out with scores of 22-24, 18-21 against Denmark's world no. 5, Anders Antonsen.
The one-hour and one-minute-long match saw Antonsen securing a 3-2 head-to-head lead over Sen. The first game was a nail-biting affair that the Danish player clinched in 32 minutes. Despite Sen’s commendable fightback to level at 5-5 and later extending to 15-11, Antonsen used his reach effectively and fatigued Sen with extended rallies.
In the second game, despite an even more intense contest, Sen faltered at 18-18 due to unforced errors. Antonsen kept his composure, securing three consecutive points to win the match. He will face eighth seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn from Thailand in the semifinals.
