The national shooting federation has announced a 15-member Indian rifle and pistol team for the Paris Olympics, with women's pistol ace Manu Bhaker being the only athlete selected for two individual events. The selection committee, emphasizing merit and current form, met virtually to finalize the squad.
India's team, comprising eight rifle and seven pistol shooters, is preparing in Volmerange-Les-Mines, France, for acclimatization and intensive training before returning home for a break. The shotgun squad will be revealed post the ISSF World Cup in Lonato, Italy.
Indian shooters secured a record 21 of 24 quotas for the Paris Games, surpassing the previous best of 15 at the Tokyo Olympics. Despite this achievement, the federation stresses that the current form was the sole criteria for selection, even if it means leaving out previous champions.
