The 37-year-old tennis star withdrew from the singles competition just hours before his first-round match on Tuesday, despite his relentless efforts to recover.

Murray’s management released a statement saying, “Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year.” Murray is extremely disappointed but is committed to playing doubles with his brother Jamie.

The decision follows surgery on June 22 to remove a cyst from his spinal cord. Murray aims to retire after the Paris Olympics, starting later this month. His career has been marred by multiple injuries, including a severe hip issue requiring two surgeries.

Murray, who was left numb and unable to walk properly due to nerve compression, has battled back from such physical challenges before. His remarkable career includes three major championships and a historic Wimbledon title in 2013, the first for a British man in 77 years. He also holds the unique achievement of back-to-back Olympic gold medals in singles.

Despite recent setbacks, Murray practiced at the All England Club, undergoing tests to check his fitness for this anticipated final Wimbledon appearance.
