Washington Sundar stated on Wednesday that he is determined to give his 100% effort to claim the spin all-rounder’s slot in India's T20 team, a position available following Ravindra Jadeja’s retirement.
Jadeja stepped down from T20 cricket after India’s recent World Cup victory, and Sundar has been making a strong case for himself in the ongoing series against Zimbabwe.
“I need to excel where I am strong and capable, particularly with my preparation. Giving my 100% every single day is crucial and non-negotiable for me,” Sundar said during the post-match press conference after the third T20 on Wednesday.
The Tamil Nadu off-spinner took three wickets (4-0-15-3), earning the player of the match award on Wednesday as India defeated Zimbabwe by 23 runs to secure a 2-1 series lead.
“Consistent preparation keeps me present and boosts my confidence. Playing for India is a tremendous opportunity, and I feel blessed,” he added.
Sundar mentioned his effort to improve his skills continually to handle competition from players like Axar Patel, who was India's top spin all-rounder at the T20 World Cup.
“Consistent performance and continual improvement in my craft are key to securing my spot,” he said.
