Colombia Stuns Uruguay in Copa America Semi-Final Despite Down to 10 Men
Colombia defeated Uruguay 1-0 in the Copa America semi-final with a first-half header from Jefferson Lerma. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Colombia held on to secure a spot in the final against Argentina. Uruguay's missed chances, including a post-hit by Luis Suarez, cost them the match.
Colombia triumphed over Uruguay with a 1-0 victory in their Copa America semi-final clash on Thursday, despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the game. A crucial first-half header by Jefferson Lerma secured the win and a place in the final against reigning champions Argentina.
The match saw Uruguay's Darwin Nunez squander several scoring opportunities in the first half. Colombia capitalised on these misses when Lerma outjumped the defence during a corner in the 39th minute, sending a precise header past goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.
Colombia faced adversity just before halftime as Daniel Munoz received a second yellow card for an off-the-ball elbow on Manuel Ugarte, reducing his team to 10 men. Uruguay dominated the second half and nearly equalised when Luis Suarez struck the post, but Colombia's defense held firm, setting up a final showdown with Argentina on Sunday. Uruguay will compete against Canada in the third-place playoff a day prior.
