Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has strongly criticized embattled skipper Babar Azam following the team’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup. Speaking in Birmingham, Afridi stated that Babar had ample opportunities to lead Pakistan and it was time for the PCB to reconsider his captaincy.

The former champions were eliminated in the group stage after losses to USA and India. Afridi emphasized the need for a decisive action by the PCB, saying, "Babar has got a full open chance to lead Pakistan. Now whatever surgery the PCB wants to do, they should take their decision."

Afridi, who is participating in the World Legends Championship, also disagreed with the PCB's decision to sack national selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq. He called for a systematic approach, giving enough time to new appointees, coach Gary Kirsten, and Jason Gillespie to prove themselves. Additionally, Afridi’s son-in-law, Shaheen Shah Afridi, faced scrutiny following allegations of indiscipline and non-cooperation during the World Cup.
