French referee François Letexier has been selected by UEFA to officiate the European Championship final between Spain and England, scheduled for Sunday at Olympiastadion in Berlin.
At just 35 years old, Letexier is one of the youngest referees to ever take charge of a major final. Throughout Euro 2024, he has already overseen three matches, including Spain's 4-1 victory over Georgia in the round of 16. Notably, Letexier managed these games without awarding any penalty kicks or sending off players, issuing just 10 yellow cards.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) specialist for the final is also French, Jérôme Brisard. Letexier's experience includes top-tier UEFA fixtures like the Champions League quarterfinal between Real Madrid and Manchester City and the Europa League semifinal featuring Bayer Leverkusen and Roma. He joined the FIFA list for international referees seven years ago. The fourth official will be Szymon Marciniak of Poland, known for his decisive calls in high-stakes Champions League matches.
