The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to grant pacer Naseem Shah the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in The Hundred under workload management, sources told Geo News. This preventative measure comes after reviewing Naseem's application and considering his history of injuries.
Sources revealed that Naseem's request was declined to prevent potential injuries, as he participates in all three formats of the game for Pakistan. Last year, he faced numerous fitness challenges, including a shoulder surgery in October 2023 that excluded him from the ICC World Cup 2023. Post-surgery, doctors advised a four to six-week rehabilitation period, keeping him off the field for several months.
With crucial World Test Championship matches ahead, including a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting August 21, protecting key players is paramount. Furthermore, head coach Jason Gillespie mentioned the possible unavailability of star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi for the series due to personal reasons, as he and his wife are expecting their first child.
