England's post-Jimmy Anderson era kicked off on Saturday as Mark Wood was named to replace the legendary fast bowler in the squad for the second Test against the West Indies at Trent Bridge.

The 41-year-old Anderson, who retired after his 188th Test on Friday, leaves behind a monumental record of 704 wickets, the highest for any pace bowler in Test cricket history.

Wood, who last played for England in the Test series against India in March, will join an ensemble of seam bowlers including Gus Atkinson, Chris Woakes, and uncapped Dillon Pennington.

The 34-year-old Wood is expected to team up with the squad in Nottingham on Tuesday, having recently returned from England's T20 World Cup campaign and yet to play a First-Class game for Durham this season.

Known as the fastest bowler in the country, Wood's inclusion adds a distinct edge to the bowling lineup, particularly alongside Atkinson, who took an impressive 12 wickets on his Test debut. The second Test is set to commence on Thursday.
