England's Ollie Pope propelled the team to a formidable 416 all out on the opening day of the second test against West Indies at Trent Bridge. Benefiting from a couple of dropped catches, Pope reached his sixth test century, following a sparkling contribution from Ben Duckett who scored 71 in the morning session.
"It was a really good day for us," Pope told the BBC after his hundred. Despite losing Zak Crawley early, Duckett hit a flurry of boundaries to mark a speedy start, reaching his fifty in 32 balls before being dismissed on the brink of his own century. Pope capitalized on these early runs despite early chances being missed by the West Indies fielders.
Harry Brook and Ben Stokes further bolstered England’s innings with brisk contributions of 36 and 69, respectively, ensuring a solid total. England is hopeful of leveraging this positive start to gain a 2-0 series lead. West Indies' bowler Kevin Sinclair acknowledged their fielding lapses but remained optimistic about their overall performance.
