In a significant move, Indian cricket team has named Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of their T20I squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. His wife, Devisha Shetty, lauded the achievement as the start of his 'own legacy'. Shubman Gill will serve as the vice-captain for both the T20I and ODI teams.

The tour to Sri Lanka, which kicks off on July 27, will consist of a series of three T20Is and three ODIs. This will be India's first international tour under the leadership of newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir. Expressing her pride on Instagram, Devisha remarked, 'When you started playing for India, we never imagined this day would come!'

Since making his international debut at the age of 30, Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as one of India's key players in T20Is, known for his consistency and unique playing style. He has scored 2,340 runs in 68 matches, with an impressive average of 43.33 and a strike rate of 167.74. Despite a modest ODI record, his T20 achievements are notable, including contributions to India's T20 World Cup victory in 2024.

Yadav has captained India in seven T20Is previously, winning five and losing only two. The squad for the Sri Lanka series also includes notable players like Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Ravi Bishnoi. The ODI squad features established names such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, aiming to bolster the team's performance.
