McLaren achieved a front row lockout during the twice-halted Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying. Lando Norris took pole, with teammate Oscar Piastri close behind. Red Bull's Max Verstappen secured third. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton also featured prominently in a session marked by crashes and red flags.
McLaren's Lando Norris clinched pole position with teammate Oscar Piastri right behind him, marking the team's first front row lockout in nearly 12 years during a dramatic Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying session. Red Bull's Max Verstappen, the current championship leader, qualified third amid an eventful session that saw multiple crashes and red flags.
Ferrari's Carlos Sainz joined Verstappen on the second row, as overtaking on this circuit is notoriously challenging. Norris, celebrating his third career pole, said, 'We are in the best position for whatever the conditions throw at us, so I'm looking forward to it.'
Although Norris secured the fastest time with a lap of one minute 15.227 seconds, Verstappen remains the favorite for the race. McLaren's success sees them closing in on Ferrari in the constructors' standings. The qualifying was also notable for mishaps, including Yuki Tsunoda's crash and Sergio Perez's early exit in the damp conditions.
