India Gears Up for Paris 2024 Olympics with Largest-Ever Shooting Contingent

The Indian contingent will kickstart its Paris Olympics journey from July 25 onwards, featuring 112 athletes in 69 medal events across 16 sports. Leading the charge is a 29-member athletics team headed by Neeraj Chopra. This squad represents a significant portion of the contingent traveling to France.
In a historic move, India is sending its largest-ever shooting team to the Olympics, with a 21-member squad, surpassing the 15 shooters sent to Tokyo 2020. Notable archers like Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai will compete in individual ranking rounds on July 25, ahead of the opening ceremony slated for July 26.
The first opportunity for India to secure a medal will be in the mixed team air rifle event on July 27. Competitors Sandeep Singh and Elavenil Valarivan, along with Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal, will aim high in Chateauroux. Manu Bhaker will feature in two individual pistol events and the 10-meter air pistol mixed team competition.
Highlighting the Indian roster, reigning Olympic and World champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will compete in August. The men's javelin throw qualifiers are on July 6, with the final two days later. PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, will aim for a third medal in badminton from July 27 to August 5.
Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, a Tokyo 2020 silver medalist, seeks another podium finish in the women's 49 kg category on August 7. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain, a Tokyo bronze medalist, will compete from July 27 to August 10. Nikhat Zareen, a two-time world champion, makes her Olympic debut as a top medal contender.
India will face competition in 16 sports at Paris 2024, including archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and tennis. Aiming to surpass the seven-medal tally from Tokyo 2020, India aspires for greater glory as the Olympics conclude on August 11.
