Gautam Gambhir officially assumed his role as the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team on Tuesday. The team commenced their first practice session in Sri Lanka, ahead of a three-match T20I series against the host nation.
Gambhir, succeeding the iconic Rahul Dravid, led the training session with fielding drills and personal interactions with the players. Notably, he provided batting tips to Sanju Samson and discussed strategies with all-rounder Shivam Dube.
Former India all-rounder Abhishek Nayar and Netherlands batter Ryan ten Doeschate, who were part of Gambhir's IPL 2024 winning coaching staff at Kolkata Knight Riders, are also on board. Their national coaching assignment begins on July 27 with the T20I series, followed by three ODIs. T Dilip continues as fielding coach, and Sairaj Bahutule joins as interim bowling coach.
