The Cuban Olympic Committee has called for the immediate exclusion of Fernando Dayán Jorge, a Cuban athlete, from the Refugee Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Cuban Olympic Committee Demands Athlete's Exclusion from Refugee Team

The Cuban Olympic Committee has urgently called for the exclusion of Fernando Dayán Jorge from the Refugee Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. According to the committee, Jorge, a 2020 gold medalist, does not meet the criteria of a refugee and has made political statements against Cuba.

Last May, the International Olympic Committee revealed that 37 athletes from 11 countries would compete as part of the Refugee Olympic Team. This team, established for the Rio 2016 Olympics, aims to symbolize hope and spotlight the global refugee crisis.

The inclusion of Jorge and weightlifter Ramiro Mora marked the first time Cubans were part of the team. However, Cuba has opposed their inclusion, claiming they are not persecuted or uprooted due to war. The Cuban Olympic Committee has demanded their immediate expulsion from the 2024 Games. Fernando Dayán Jorge declined to comment on the matter.
