Diana Taurasi Embraces the Journey Ahead of Paris Games

Diana Taurasi, a five-time gold medallist, is eager to take to the court at the Paris Games, prioritizing her passion for basketball over the pursuit of more medals.

At 42, the American athlete understands the unique nature of each Olympic experience. With her sixth appearance, she has learned to trust the process and savor every moment. 'I still love the game. I love competing... I enjoy the journey, the preparation, the struggle,' Taurasi said on Thursday.

'Tomorrow's opening ceremony will be special, regardless of how many times you've been here. When it's game time, it becomes serious,' she added. Taurasi could become the most decorated team athlete in Olympic history if the U.S. women bring home a medal, recognizing the tough competition ahead.

'France, Spain, Australia, China, Japan, and Belgium all pose significant challenges,' she noted. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, Taurasi stressed the need for quick chemistry and selflessness in their opening match against Japan on Monday.

Still not contemplating retirement, the Phoenix Mercury guard and WNBA's all-time leading scorer joked about attending the 2028 Games in Los Angeles: 'I'll be there, having a beer on the beach.'
