Skipper Harmanpreet Singh saved his best for the last as he delivered a thrilling 3-2 victory for India against New Zealand in their opening Pool B match of the Paris Olympics on Saturday.

Sam Lane (8th minute) and Simon Child (53rd) struck for New Zealand, while Mandeep Singh (24th), Vivek Sagar Prasad (34th), and Harmanpreet Singh (59th) were the goal scorers for India.

Despite their offensive start, India initially trailed as Lane's goal from New Zealand's first penalty corner put them ahead. India responded with goals from Mandeep and Vivek to take the lead, while Child's goal briefly leveled the score. The decisive moment came when Harmanpreet converted a penalty stroke in the final minute.
