USA Cricket Appoints New CEO to Meet ICC Requirements and Elevate the Sport
USA Cricket has appointed Jonathan Atkeison as its new CEO effective August 1, fulfilling one of the two critical requirements to remain an ICC Associate nation. The appointment aims to help USAC comply with governance norms as set by the USOPC and solidify cricket's presence in the American sports landscape.
USA Cricket has appointed Jonathan Atkeison as its new Chief Executive Officer effective August 1, thereby fulfilling one of the critical requirements to avoid disqualification as an ICC Associate nation.
Atkeison’s appointment comes in response to ICC’s warning to the United States body for breaching two norms, one being the absence of a CEO while the other involves not meeting governance standards set by the USOPC.
According to the norms, it is necessary for every sport’s governing body to attain the National Governing Body (NGB) status, which is essential for sports included in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The ICC approved cricket’s inclusion in the LA Games in its 141st Session held in Mumbai last year. Atkeison, who most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer of USA Rugby, brings over 15 years of experience in governing sports bodies.
“I’m honored to join the USA Cricket team during this pivotal time. The recent success of the men's national team in the T20 World Cup and the upcoming opportunity to showcase cricket at the LA28 Olympics make it an exciting time for the sport in the US,” Atkeison commented.
Atkeison is hailed for steering USA Rugby through financial restructuring in 2020, which led to four years of rapid growth and development. He aims to build a world-class organization to leverage the momentum and embed cricket in the American sporting landscape.
