India's Ramita Jindal demonstrated outstanding marksmanship to qualify for the women's 10m air rifle final in fifth place at the Olympic Games on Sunday, as compatriot Elavenil Valarivan succumbed to pressure and finished 10th.

Ramita, a bronze medallist at the Hangzhou Asian Games, aggregated 631.5 points to become the second shooter from India to secure a berth in the final, following pistol shooter Manu Bhaker. Elavenil, on the other hand, scored 630.7 points.

Despite a sluggish start that kept her out of the top eight till the last series, Ramita rallied to book a spot in the final. Conversely, Elavenil, who had held the fifth position for much of the qualification round, plummeted to 10th after a poor final series. She consistently averaged 10.5 points per shot but a 103.8-point final series led to her elimination.
