In a landmark achievement, Indian shooter Manu Bhaker secured a bronze medal in the Women's Air Pistol event at the Paris Olympics, earning praise from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president, Raninder Singh. He described the win as a 'fantastic achievement'.
Raninder Singh congratulated Bhaker and her coach, Jaspal Rana, highlighting the historic nature of the win. Singh emphasized the significance of Bhaker's victory, considering it to be the first female medal in the pistol category for India in two decades.
The 22-year-old Bhaker achieved a score of 221.7, bringing home India's first medal of the ongoing Olympics. This win holds special significance as Bhaker faced disappointment at the Tokyo Olympics due to a pistol malfunction. South Korea's Ye Jin won gold with a record score of 243.2 points, while Kim Yeji took silver with 241.3 points.
Bhaker had earlier secured her spot in the finals by finishing third in the qualification round of the Women’s 10 Metre Air Pistol event. Unfortunately, fellow Indian shooter Rhythm Sangwan missed out on the final, finishing in 15th place.
