George Russell's triumphant finish at the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday is facing scrutiny as his Mercedes car was found to be underweight.

The FIA technical delegate weighed the car and removed 2.8 litres of fuel, but the vehicle was not fully drained according to the standard procedure.

Reweighed, the car came in at 796.5 kilogrammes, falling 1.5 kg short of the minimum requirement. The issue has been referred to the stewards, casting uncertainty on Russell’s win, which saw him finish ahead of Lewis Hamilton with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in third place.
