Matthew Mott Steps Down as England's White-Ball Head Coach

Matthew Mott has resigned as England's white-ball head coach after a two-year stint. Assistant coach Marcus Trescothick will take over temporarily. Despite a successful 2022 T20 World Cup campaign, England's recent performance struggled, prompting the change. Matthew Mott has resigned from his position as England's white-ball head coach with immediate effect, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed. Mott's departure comes midway through his four-year contract, having guided England to a 2022 T20 World Cup victory but falling short in recent campaigns.

Under Mott, England won the 2022 T20 World Cup but failed to defend their title in the 2024 edition, exiting in the group stage after a 68-run loss to India. They also couldn't defend their 2019 ODI World Cup crown. Reflecting on his tenure, Mott expressed pride in the team's character and passion.

Assistant coach Marcus Trescothick will assume the head coach role on an interim basis. Rob Key, ECB's Managing Director of England Men's Cricket, praised Mott's achievements and emphasized the need for a new direction. He announced that the search for a full-time replacement has begun, with Trescothick and Captain Jos Buttler leading the team in upcoming series.

England's next white-ball series will be against arch-rival Australia, starting on September 11 at The Ageas Bowl, England. (ANI)
