In a statement, CHINADA asserted that they strictly adhere to anti-doping guidelines and denounced the Times as unfair and immoral. This reaction came a day after the newspaper reported that two Chinese swimmers had tested positive for a banned steroid in 2022 but had their provisional suspensions lifted due to contaminated food.

The situation has further heightened tensions between the World Anti-Doping Agency and the U.S. anti-doping body over the handling of a doping case involving 23 Chinese swimmers who tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ) before the Tokyo Games.
