Former Indian all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri has commended Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, labeling him as one of India's finest captains alongside cricket legend MS Dhoni. Under Rohit's captaincy, India clinched the ICC T20 World Cup title in a thrilling final against South Africa at Barbados, ending a 11-year ICC trophy drought.

Rohit's impressive command as a T20I skipper includes surpassing Dhoni's record, with 49 victories in 62 matches compared to Dhoni's 41 wins in 72 games. Shastri believes both captains exhibit exceptional tactical acumen in white-ball cricket, placing them on equal footing.

Shastri noted, 'As a tactician, Rohit stands out and ranks among the best captains we've had, alongside Dhoni.' He lauded Rohit's calmness and strategic moves during crucial moments, particularly his handling of key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya during the T20 World Cup, which India won undefeated.

Rohit's leadership also brought India to a runners-up position in both the ICC Cricket World Cup and the ICC World Test Championship, along with winning the 2023 Asia Cup, further solidifying his reputation as an exemplary captain.

Shastri underscored the significance of Rohit's tactical decisions in the T20 World Cup, contributing to pivotal moments such as Jasprit Bumrah's tight overs and Hardik Pandya's crucial wickets in the final. Such strategies enabled India to defend 177 runs, securing the World Cup title.
