Day of Mixed Fortunes for Indian Athletes at Paris Olympics
India's Tulika Maan faced a swift defeat in judo at the Paris Olympics, while Indian archers advanced to the quarterfinals in the recurve mixed team event. Balraj Panwar ended India's rowing campaign. The day showcased both setbacks and successes for India's participants.
India's Tulika Maan conceded defeat against Cuba's Idalys Ortiz in the judo women's +78kg round of 32 event at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Friday. The veteran Cuban judoka overpowered Maan, resulting in a swift 10-0 loss that concluded in just 28 seconds.
Meanwhile, Ortiz progressed to the round of 16, while Maan will now participate in the first round of the repechages. Additionally, Indian archers Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara advanced to the quarterfinals in the archery recurve mixed team event, defeating Indonesia's Diananda Choirunisa and Arif Pangestu.
Earlier in the day, India's Balraj Panwar finished fifth in final D of the men's singles sculls event, marking the end of the Indian rowing campaign at the Summer Games with a time of 7:02.37. Despite his efforts, Panwar failed to best India's Olympic rowing record. The men's lightweight double sculls duo of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh, who finished 11th at the Tokyo Olympics, still hold the record.
