Canada's Bronze Medal Appeal Rejected: Russia Retains Third Place
The Court of Arbitration for Sport denied Canada's appeal to award them a team figure skating bronze medal from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. Canada had hoped Russia would be disqualified after Kamila Valieva tested positive for a banned substance, allowing Canada to move up to a podium finish.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected Canada's appeal to be awarded a team figure skating bronze medal from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, thereby keeping the Russia Olympic Committee in third place.
Russia, led by Kamila Valieva, originally won gold but were relegated to bronze following a positive banned substance test by Valieva. Canada, who placed fourth, had sought Russia's disqualification to secure a podium spot.
The United States was promoted to gold, and Japan to silver. The medals are slated to be awarded in a special ceremony during the Paris Games.
