Parul Chaudhary's Olympic Dream Cut Short
Parul Chaudhary, India's national record holder in the women's 3000m steeplechase, failed to qualify for the final round in the Paris Olympics. Despite a season's best performance, she finished eighth in her heat. This marks the end of her campaign, having also missed the mark in the women's 5000m race.
In a disappointing turn of events, Parul Chaudhary, India's national record holder in the women's 3000m steeplechase, failed to qualify for the final round at the Paris Olympics. Chaudhary finished eighth in her heat race, held on Sunday, thereby concluding her Olympic campaign. Despite clocking a season's best time of 9 minutes 23.39 seconds, she fell short of her earlier national mark of 9:15.31 set during the 2023 Budapest World Championships.
High-profile competitors like Peruth Chemutai of Uganda, Faith Cherotich of Kenya, and Gesa Felicitas Krause of Germany dominated the heats, securing the top three spots. The top five athletes from each of the three heats advance to the finals, a position Parul narrowly missed.
Parul had hoped to follow in the footsteps of Lalita Babar, the lone Indian woman to qualify for the final round in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2016 Rio Olympics. With this outcome, Parul also adds to her setbacks, having failed to qualify for the women's 5000m race earlier in the competition.
