India's Olympic Hopes Hit as Defender Amit Rohidas Faces Match Suspension
Amit Rohidas, a key player for India's Olympic men's hockey team, received a one-match suspension due to a red card in a recent game against Great Britain. This suspension means he will miss the crucial semifinal against Germany, leaving India with only 15 available players. Hockey India has lodged an appeal.
India's men's hockey team will face Germany in the Olympic semifinals without their key defender and first rusher, Amit Rohidas, who received a one-match suspension after a red card in the quarterfinal against Great Britain.
This development means India will have only 15 players available for the crucial match, dealing a significant blow to the eight-time Olympic champions.
According to an FIH statement, Rohidas's suspension is due to a breach of the FIH Code of Conduct during the India vs. Great Britain quarterfinal on August 4. The incident occurred when Rohidas's stick unintentionally struck a rival player, leading to a red card following a video referral by the TV umpire. Despite being down a player, India managed to hold Great Britain to a 1-1 draw and triumphed in the shootout.
In response, Hockey India has lodged an appeal against Rohidas's suspension, with a decision expected from the FIH Jury Bench later today.
