Graham Thorpe, a former England cricketer, died at the age of 55 on Monday after a prolonged illness. Thorpe's death has sent shockwaves through the cricketing community. The England Cricket Board (ECB) expressed deep sorrow over his passing in a statement.

The ECB statement, as quoted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), noted, 'It is with great sadness that we share the news that Graham Thorpe, MBE, has passed away. There seem to be no appropriate words to describe the deep shock we feel at Graham's death. More than one of England's finest-ever batters, he was a beloved member of the cricket family and revered by fans all over the world.'

Thorpe, who made his international debut in 1993, played 100 Test matches, amassing 6744 runs at an average of 44.66. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Thorpe scored 2380 runs at an average of 37.18. Following his playing career, Thorpe took on several coaching roles, including batting coach for the England Men's side. His recent roles included England's assistant coach and an appointment as Afghanistan's head coach, a position he couldn't assume due to illness.
